Fight Against Plastic pollution Sikkim took the first step by introducing Bamboo water bottle




The quaint town of Sikkim is about to introduce bamboo water bottles for tourists during a bid to completely stop the utilization of plastic water bottles and littering.

Lachen, arguably the primary town to completely ban packaged beverage bottles, is introducing bamboo bottles as an alternate.


Lachen draws lakhs of tourists annually for its snow-capped peaks and picturesque views. As tourism within the town grows, so does plastic water bottles left behind by tourists.
The plastic bottles left behind by tourists prompted the area people to introduce the ban. The bamboo water bottles are ordered from Assam through Sikkim Rajya Sabha MP Hishey Lachungpa.
It was in 1998 when Sikkim took the necessary steps towards banning plastic water bottles. In 2016, it banned the utilization of packaged beverages in government offices also as in the least government events.
There are random checks for tourist vehicles along the thanks to confirming nobody brings plastic water bottles Lachen.
The local Government has ordered 1,000 bamboo water bottles, a time-changing as well as the best alternative to plastic bottles. While 1,000 bottles may be a modest start, the amount will increase within the future.
